Azerbaijan retail app experience index

Seven Azerbaijani grocery and marketplace apps measured independently across two layers. The first layer reads each app’s rating, unhappy share and installs from public store signals. The second layer classifies 6,429 real user comments into twelve complaint categories with AI. The first layer says how highly an app is rated, the second says where the complaint actually comes from.

Key findings

01

The biggest complaint is bonus and cashback

The most complained-about area in grocery apps is not delivery or price, it is the loyalty scheme. Bonus and cashback account for 34% of comments on Bazarstore, 22% on Araz, 17% on Bravo and 16% on OBA Plus. What users write most often is that accumulated cashback disappears without warning, that a bonus is deducted at checkout but never appears in the balance, and that the bonus card cannot be found in the app. The mechanism meant to hold the customer is the one that fails most.

02

Delivery is only a problem in a real marketplace

Delivery complaints are almost absent in loyalty apps and rise sharply in genuine ordering apps, reaching 13% on Ozio and 10% on Birmarket. Birmarket also carries the highest complaint levels for order accuracy, returns and customer service. A bonus-card app and a delivery marketplace have entirely different problems.

03

The leader wins on consistency, not on scale

Araz tops the index at 4.5, and it is not the largest app. Birmarket dominates on scale with more than 26,000 ratings but scores 3.8. Leadership in retail comes from the consistency of the daily experience rather than from the size of the app.

04

The Birmarket paradox

Birmarket scores 3.8 on Android and 4.6 on iOS, a 0.8-point gap that is the widest platform split in the index. The mass market in Azerbaijan runs mostly on Android. So the largest marketplace's lower-rated experience is precisely the one reaching the mass segment.

05

The unhappy share spreads wide

The one-star share runs from roughly 7.7% on Araz to 42.5% on Bazarstore. In the lower half of the table, one in four or five comments carries a single star. That is thousands of openly unhappy users, and the average rating hides the tail.

06

An abandoned app gets punished

The Bazarstore app has not been updated since September 2023, and as a result its ratings on both Android (3.2) and iOS (2.6) are the lowest in the index, with a one-star share reaching 42.5%. When shipping stops, the experience falls quickly.

User pain map

A rating says how highly an app is scored, but not where the complaint comes from. For this map, 6,429 user comments across the seven apps (3,644 Azerbaijani, 2,206 Russian, 579 English) were classified with AI into twelve complaint categories. Methodology, sources & limitations

How we read it

  • Ratings. Read live from both store ecosystems on 11 June 2026 through public endpoints.
  • One-star share. Derived from the Android rating histogram.
  • Installs. Android’s lifetime bucket, as the store displays it.
  • Last update. Taken from the store listing.
  • Comment source. Comments were pulled from both Android and iOS in Azerbaijani, Russian and English, with short and emoji-only entries dropped. The remaining 6,429 comments were multi-label classified with AI into 12 categories with a 0-3 severity.

Limitations

  • Comment pools are roughly the 3,000 most recent comments for each (app, language) pair.
  • Rating counts for Bazarstore and Favorit Premium are small and should be read with care.
  • AI classification carries a margin of error, so only the overall signal across cells should be read.
  • Figures are re-pulled and re-dated on every publication cycle.

Queued for the next cycle

Apps to be read on the same methodology: Bolmart, Rahat market, Kontakt Home, Bizim Market.

Frequently asked questions

Which grocery app is the best in Azerbaijan?

In Emotix's 2026 retail experience index the highest-rated grocery app is Araz, at 4.5 on Google Play. The index covers seven grocery and marketplace apps as of 11 June 2026.

What do people complain about most in grocery apps?

The largest complaint is neither delivery nor price but loyalty: 34% of comments on Bazarstore and 22% on Araz are about bonus and cashback. The most common specific complaints are cashback disappearing without warning and a bonus being deducted at checkout without showing up in the balance.

Is Birmarket a good app?

Birmarket dominates on scale with more than 26,000 ratings, but it scores 3.8 on Android against 4.6 on iOS. That 0.8-point gap is the widest platform split in the index, which means the mass-market Android segment is having the worse experience.

What is the Azerbaijan retail app experience index?

It is Emotix's study of seven Azerbaijani grocery and marketplace apps across two layers: public store ratings, and a complaint map built by classifying thousands of user comments into twelve categories with AI. Published 11 June 2026.

You can see where you rank. Where are you losing?

This page shows where every app stands, not where it leaks. A single-retailer report puts your row against the other six on every column, opens the complaint map filtered to your app alone, and says what is worth fixing first. Same team, same measurement as the public edition.
